"Things sweet to taste prove in digestion sour"...Shakespeare

I have had digestion problems for several years, had my gall bladder removed at 43 and have been on Prevacid for a reflux since about that time. Lately, my issues have become worse. Reluctant to take more medication, I began to look for natural cures for my problems.

Upon reading my first book about digestion, I found out that poor digestion is related to weight problems, eczema, acne, allergies, asthma, fatigue, constipation, anemia, gall stones, insomnia, infections, fungal problems, arthritis, osteoporosis, thyroid problems and types of cancer. I was aghast to realize that I can check off 11 of the above conditions!! It was then I knew that I had a much bigger problem than I ever realized with my digestive dysfunction. And since then I have begun to find natural ways to help it work better. They include changing my diet and including natural tonics and teas in my daily regime.

I started this group in an effort to bring foodies with digestive problems and/or cures together so that we can have open discussion and potentially learn how to maintain excellent digestive systems.

Please join and share your story, recipes, advice and knowledge.

I don't have a lot of knowledge to share, but am interested in learning more about this. My dad had acid reflux for years and my son has it often. My mother had her gall bladder removed quite some years ago, and she has thyroid problems, had breast cancer (twice) just had her other breast removed. She has digestive issues all the time. I'll be sharing with her my newly found knowledge.

I have severe gastric problems to the point of hospitalization at times. I am disabled due to chronic pain (back issues) and also have a history of cancer and am in a recurrence now. I also don't have a lot of info to share but would like to learn more. Thanks for this!

I hope you took the test Lori -- and Donna, you should get your mom to take it. Jake too for that matter. That way they can identify the area or areas they have difficulty with so that they know what to approach the problem with.

I have read so much negative stuff lately about antacids and medications such as Prevacid and recently learned that removing someone's gall bladder doesn't alleviate the problem or the symptoms! And, I read that the bile then just drips continually into the stomach, which causes pain, different from gall stone pain, but stomach pain nonetheless and can eventually cause cancer as it eats away at the stomach lining!!! Isn't that comforting to know after the fact!!
