  When buying bagels, split them immediately and place both halves into a single plastic freezer bag. Freeze this, and you won't have bagels going stale before you can eat them all. Just take one bag out each time, and it's fresh!
  
  Do almost the same thing with loaves of sliced bread. Store them in freezer bags in sets of two - sandwich packs. Then you can freeze the whole loaf, and still take out only what you want, without having to defrost the whole loaf. Hot dog rolls and hamburger buns work this way, too.
