  Hope this group can be one that encourages many postings of recipes that perhaps in the past were taken for granted. I for one can't get a decent sub here in England nor can I get eggplant parmigiana out. On the other hand living here I have new favorites that I wouldn't have had if not for being in a new country. I love banoffee pie and Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. So the basic idea is to share a bit of the old with the new.

  Love the idea! Hopefully you won't mind if I vent about ingredients that seem hard to find. For example - baking soda! Couldn't find it at the grocery store. After I sent him on a mission to locate some, my boyfriend (a doctor here in Switzerland) finally obtained it at the apothecary!

  Here in Italy it is sold near the water with all the digestive aids. As long as they have it. It is cream of tartar you have to get at the farmacia here.

  Amazed to hear that baking soda had to be purchased from the apothecary. There is so much that one takes for granted. Of course baking soda is one those items that is indispensable when it comes to baking. One surprise for me here is how cheap flour and bread flours are in general.
