Just diagnosed gluten/wheat allergic

  • hellenkisic 16 years ago
I was recently diagnosed gluten and wheat allergic though not celliac. I am a real foodie. I am having a hard time because I miss foods that use flour based gravies and soy sauce. Alot of food also have hidden wheat and use modified starches for thickeners including BBQ sauces, salad dressings. I want to enjoy dishes that are easy to make and beyond mixtures of vegetables. Any submissions would be greatly appreciated.

I empathize with you... you can make gravies using cornstarch rather than flour...

can you do spelt??? some can.. who are wheat free and others can't... there are quite a lot of recipes here that are gluten or wheat free...

there are also a few other groups you can join....

I will send over some recipes....

I stil struggle with GF after 18 years. It isn't easy. I modify alot of recipes. Also, cannot have chicken (or any product that contains chicken broth) . Choices do not have to be limited, just need to work around it.

    Good Luck

I am celiac on top of not eating red meat or poultry since the age of 7. Try that when you go out with friends to a restaurant lol! There are SO many great and easy gluten free products accessible now however and I find it totally fun and challenging to re create my fave dishes modified. Sometimes frustrating (like when my 1st gluten free pizza crust came out tasting like cookies? WTF?!) but ultimately great.
