What are the symptoms

I keep seeing refences to gluten-free recipes on GR & came to check out this site to see what it's all about. How do you feel when you have a problem when eating wheat products? How does your body re-act? I would appreciate anyones answers

Well that is a tough one. I was tested for celiac but the test was negative, but my doctor says that if it bothers me then remove it from my diet. If I feel better after then don't eat it. Easy for him to say right :D I will give you the quick version of how I found out. I went on a cereal diet. Girl I worked with said she did it to lose pregnancy weight. she just ate nutritious cereals and milk for two weeks. I thought ok I could do that. Well day three of eating nothing but Rasin Bran I could barely swallow. It felt like I had a lump in my stomach blocking the food from going down. It became very painful, so at first I thought I was lactose intolerant. I stopped the diet and tried to eat regular food like sandwiches, noodles soft stuff. Noope too late I still couldn't get much down and when I did I threw it back up. I had such bubbling pain in my stomach it hurt all day long. Eventually my mother had seensomeone on TV talking about gluten and the intestines so she suggested it could be that. BTW from the time it started to when my mother suggested it I had gone to the emergency room and had been put on ulcer medication and all kinds of stuff. It didn't help. So I cut out wheat and gluten cold turkey and noticed the bubbling and gurgling started to subside. Gradually over a couple weeks the pain and digestive discomfort went away and I was able to eat regularly, without the wheat and gluten ofcourse. Now I have done my own experiments since then and each time I go back to eating it I continue to have a negative reaction, sometimes not immediate but as I digest it starts to come back . I have even broke out in ulcers in my mouth when eating tainted foods. That is my version sorry it wasn't so short, but I have found that others stories are different because when our intestines are hurt then our bodies can go haywire in so many different ways. My suggestion is remove the wheat and wheat gluten products from your diet and then if you feel better then that is your answer. Some other allergens are corn and caisenate. I haven't had a problem with corn products, but have found that caseniate (can't spell it right) gives me problems. Turns out that it is a milk derivative that has almost the same chemical structure as gluten..go figure. Well good luck and hopefully this is just curiosity and you are feeling well. If not then I hope you find the cause of your discomfort.
