    For Julie...
    Here's a recipe for
    Pineapple-Coconut Ice Cream
From Taste of the South, Summer 05
    Yield: 1 quart
    Preparation: 10 minutes
    Cook:5 minutes
    Chill: Overnight
    Freeze: 20 to 30 minutes
From Taste of the South, Summer 05
    Ingredients
    2 cups half-and-half
    1 cup whipping cream
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup pineapple preserves
    1/2 teaspoon coconut extract
    Garnish: toasted coconut
    Directions
In a heavy 3-quart saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a simmer over medium heat on stovetop. Remove from heat when the first bubbles begin to form around the edge of the pan; DO NOT let the mixture boil. Let mixture cool slightly. Place mixture in an airtight container; refrigerate overnight.
Pour mixture into a gel-type countertop freezer. Freeze according to manufacturer’s directions. Ice cream will be soft. For firmer ice cream, place in the freezer for several hours or overnight. Garnish with toasted coconut, if desired.
For a 4-quart canister freezer, increase quantities to 2 quarts half-and-half, 1 quart whipping cream, 2 cups sugar, 2 cups pineapple preserves, and 2 teaspoons coconut extract.

Oh this is wonderful, did you post it on the site? I have one of those small ice cream machines where you freeze the inside portion. It works quite well for soft serve. A "foodie" sent me an email complaining I had used her recipe, I did but on her web site she stated if anyone used her recipes you had to give her full credit and reference her web site all of which I did. She said she'd call counsel or whatever on me if I didn't immediately take it off. I did that but informed her she ought to amend the notice on her web page and perhaps should keep her precious recipes to herself if she doesn't want anyone to use them...what a crank. Oh well. If you don't post it could you email it to me? This recipe is a keeper!!!!!!

There have been discussions here about use of recipes. You would be in more trouble by using a picture than a recipe. You can copyright a book of recipes but would be hard to copyright a recipe.
Especially since she gave a blanket written permission to use her recipe, she shouldn't have been complaining.
If in doubt, chang the way the recipe is written up and maybe even some of the ingredients, then, it's as much yours as hers. Then you can amend the description with something like "inspired by so and so's recipe".
The one site that I used frequently in the beginning gave me permission to use recipes and pictures with credit, so I am covered!

She sent me another email yesterday telling me not to be a "snark" whatever that is. I told her it's off now so have a nice day. Gees, you'd think she'd drop it already!! I wonder if that's why I can't post any recipes today? I keep getting a "forbidden" msg, what IS that?

I bet it's just the system again. If they are working on something, sometimes it can cause problems....when things don't mesh.
When they get the new site put together, I imagine our problems will be resolved and we will be very happy campers.
Sorry someone is being so snarky about the whole thing.
Just remember, she can't copyright HER recipe ingredients, as much as she would like to think she can.
Dr. Pepper can't sue Mr. Pibb for coyping their drink and she can't protect her recipe, as much as she would like to think she can. If she doesn't want others using it, why publish it on a blog?

I love it julie, that you referred the person as a crank - especially funny (maybe not intended) but remember the old ice cream makers where you had to crank? It's too early for me to be that awake, but your comment got me! lol

wow - both have made wonderful points
