All Stars Project Runway

Boo hoo, no Tim Gunn as mentor on the new season of All Stars. (He has ABC's Revolution and he is a new spokesperson for Weight Watchers)
No Heidi, No Michael Kors, No Nina Garcia. I can admit to some Michael and Nina fatigue and can appreciate a new judging perspective. But no Tim, no Heidi??? Issac Mizrahi can be a bit of a media whore and a bitchy queen, I don't know how he will play out with this cast of characters.

I hope this a real competition and not just a vehicle to right the wrong done to Mondo last season. The prizes are unbelievable. Half a million dollars to the winner!

I won't discuss the runway results, yet. Except OMG, sweetpea! What were you thinking? Please share your feelings on the NEW PR.

I'm not missing Heidi and Michael and Nina that much. I always miss Tim! But, I guess I am looking at this one as kind of a different Project Runway. I just hope they bring back the regular PR with Heidi, etc at some point.
Mondo is definitely talented. I had forgotten how talented Rami is though. And Austin - my personal favorite! I adore him and still remember being devastated when he got eliminated in Season 1. By the way, any Austin lovers should check out his wedding dress designs at austinscarlett.com They are beautiful.
I also am a Kenley fan. One of the very few. I actually liked her in season 5 and I love her retro take on clothes. I think her nasal voice drives people crazy. Mila is the one that drives me nuts. I don't like her constant angles in her designs. Nice to see April again as well.
Isaac can be downright mean sometimes but I do love him. I loved his show! He should make for an interesting judge at least. Can't wait for the Miss Piggy as a judge episode!!
I was pleased with the outcome this last week and am looking forward to next week. The 99 cent store episodes aren't my favorite.

Michael C just wants me to give him a hug. He is so needy. Rami is talented and no draping on his first challenge. He really made a gorgeous dress. I wish Mondo would stop dressing like Pinocchio, his own personal style tends to put people off a bit.
Kenley voice does kill me. I just can't listen to her. I adore Austin and his show with Santorino was very entertaining. I'll have to go check out the wedding gowns. I like Issac's aesthetics and clothing lines...I dislike meanness. His show was fun. Mila and her colorblocking is a one note wonder IMO. I'm glad the Unexpected materials challenge is over and I hope they are given more time to show the construction and concept behind the dress. I think early projected winners are Rami and Mondo. I did like Austin's dress and his use of an odd material was good but not as solid as his cornhusk design of his original season. He has a great eye.

What a fantastic challenge. I love couture. I was thrilled that Austin won but if Michael had won, I would have been just as pleased. He made a beautiful gown. Totally agreed with SweetP going home. I can see the least talented are being weeded out pretty quickly!
I am really looking forward to next week's challenge of making a cocktail gown for Miss Piggy. That should have some funny moments. :)

I had a hard time picking a favorite. I loved the top three. Michael did a fabulous job. It was rocking! Austin did a gorgeous dress and it was cool to see his enamored expression with Badgely Mischka pair. He is one cool cookie underneath. I hated hated sweetp's dress and that hideous ombre dress by April. It did look like she just through patches of fabric together and sewed them randomly. I though Joanna Coles was a bit better in her segment this week. She did ask thought provoking questions to the contestants and make them push a little harder. I was surprised at how much I liked Gordana's attempt at couture. Jerrell's effort made me cringe...I'm sorry it looked like a mumu to me. Absolutely loved the whole Night at the Opera concept and it was a fun show. Now how do YOU design for a muppet!!! LOL Miss Piggy does not mince words, this should be a hoot.

I didn't like Jerrell's dress either, although he sure loved it! I didn't like the feathers or whatever it was flying out of her boobs. I was surprised how much I liked Gordana's dress. Her taste isn't usually the same as mine. Didn't like Anthony's white Grecian goddess thing/whatever either. I was kinda surprised they let Kenley get away with pink but the dress was well made so perhaps that was some of the reason.
I rather liked Mondo's sixties feel with the train. I loved the material he used.
The bottom three were definitely the bottom three!
Can't wait for Miss Piggy. Should be a hoot, as you said! :)

Anthony's white Grecian, I liked the plunge, the asymmetrical, the embellishment was pretty. Did not like the all black accessories, but if you were literally channeling Phantom of the Opera instead of Night at the Opera, it would work. It would take a tall confident woman to wear that confection.

Gordana does not usually score high with me, she did surprise me this week. Any higher on the sheer cuts outs and that model would be making her momma blush.
Kenley's looked extremely well made, but it didn't read dramatic opera...it would make a fabulous runway dress for Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. Rami was more prom than opera to me. I wasn't fond of the overworked aspects on the bodice and abdomen, it didn't work for me, although the neckline was very pretty. I love a portrait kind of neckline. Wasn't Laura Bennett's forte? I could see Mondo's as a sixties throwback, it reminded me of the fem-bots in Austin Powers, not really opera ready. The short/long aspect struck me as tortured schizophrenic. I think the fabric was fabulous, it was the best part of the dress. Kara is going to be fodder for the shredder next week, if she doesn't step it up. I think Mila's look read "lady of the evening" a bit too much for me. More of a cocktail New Year's Eve, "I'm looking for a hubby" look. LOL Don't have much of an opinion, now do I?

<hehe> about Mila's look. She's definitely not a favorite of mine, but she's too good to go home anytime soon, I would think. Mondo's didn't look very "opera", that's true, but I sure saw some Jackie O there. Guess he and Kenley slid through this time because of the quality.

What a great challenge! I loved this one. This and dressing La Nina are my favorites now.
I was sweating bullets with Austin standing up there in the final three. Just what the heck did he make this week anyway? No woman (not even a pig) wants bows on her hips! I totally loved Rami's pink number and thought for sure it would win. I was surprised Michael won, but I like him so he can have it - this week. :-D I liked Kenley's pink hat, too. Over the top, which is what the challenge was all about. She's a lot less bitchy this season, don't you think? I had read an interview she had given and said she had changed a lot since season 5.
Either person could have gone home - Mila or Gordana - for me. I would have preferred Mila however. So what if Kenley and Kara help each other? Just because they don't want to help you, Mila. Maybe they don't like you!
Ooooh, I'm getting too catty. :-P
I do get tired, tired of Mila and her black and white and stripes, blocks and angles though. Just not my style.

  • notyourmomma 12 years ago said:
No, you are not catty.......I think Mila is infectious in her gloomy demeanor. She can't be friendly to anyone, because it is a competition. I would have preferred Mila to go home, she did not embrace the spirit of the challenge at all. She is a one-note designer. I thought Gordana's dress was an unfortunate color. Didn't you crack up at Miss Piggy as a judge? Good grief, Miss Piggy is almost bigger than Mondo!! I think Michael's dress won because it was more cocktail and red carpet. Rami's was definitely a Spring lunch in Paris with Kermie. I loved the whole effect of it, but the polka dots did have some issues in seaming. Very MP, but not quite red carpet. Austin had me scared. The color, the bows..."moi" LOL and why was he dressed like a bullfighter? Good come back on the hula hoop line, however, quick thinking. Kenley does seem nicer this season and even her voice isn't as nasally or strident. Her dress confection in pink, ehhh, upholstery material?? why? And why would you worry if Miss Piggy showed a little too much, not like anything is going to fall out....ummm, it will likely be glued in place for her runway walk. Liked the hat. Jerrell's was awful and he keeps sliding by, week to week. I could be Anthony's best friend in a heart beat. Kara is so needy and what was the dust up over the gloves and shoes? Can't they put a name on them and claim them....Mondo was pretty catty over the whole thing too. That passive/aggressive trait is so unattractive. Joanna Coles was trying so hard to be serious and it just made me smile. I missed the preview for next week, so I will be totally surprised.

Speaking of which, I don't know if it is true, but Liv told me that Seal and Heidi are getting a divorce???? NO, they were my favorite couple and had made it for so long. color me disappointed and sad. Their dynamic was always so sparkling.

Yes, I read that today online. They have been married seven years and someone said they had a "tense year" last year. I was very disappointed. Their kids are so little.
Miss Piggy bigger than Mondo. Ha! That's funny. Or Pinocchio, that is. :-P
I suppose you are right about why Michael's dress won. It was my second choice anyway. I do love Anthony, too. I don't think he'll be the top guy but you never know. One week you are in and the next week - you are out. I don't like Jerrell's stuff. He and Mila can go. Kara, too. Yes, it would seem they would all get together and decide what they wanted from the shelves. I'm kind of liking Joanna Coles.
I saw the preview for next week but I forgot what it was already. My faulty memory will let me be surprised, too! :)

Interesting challenge. I totally disagreed with who got sent home. I thought Kara's dress was worse than April's. April's was short - yes - but I didn't think it was so awful. I liked the colors in it and I thought it represented her flavor well with no long explanation.
Totally surprised Mila's mess was one of the top three. Oh - and Mila - I get you don't like Kenley, OK? Enough already! Who's the b----?
Mondo's caftan was interesting, but I thought it a bit too orange. I was OK with the winning design. Hard to believe Michael won two weeks in a row though!

  • notyourmomma 12 years ago said:
I hated Mondo's caftan. It was too literal of a translation of cantalope and so MATURE. I can't believe Michael won two weeks in a row either. I don't think he deserved the criticism of the color, that was a perfect match. The nightgown effect (Gordana effect) was disconcerting. I saw Linda Evans from Dynasty floating down the Runway. LOL
I loved DVF as a judge. Rami's kiwi was an odd collection of greens, liked the top part, hated the skirt. Austin and the glue gun....his was a bit too weddingish for me, but what can you do with Vanilla. Jerrell's should have been near the bottom, his looked like a hippie version of Xena Warrior Princess. What's up with that print and overworked neckline? Anthony's dress looked better moving but the still shots had all these weird angles and protrusions and again it required explanation and that is never good.
Kara needed to go before April. Kara's dress suffered with sweetpi tiered syndrome and the pregnancy cupcake look is never ever attractive. Although April had more sewing issues, her color story was better. We very nearly saw a little too much rear end in April's and I think that was the coup de grace. DVF saying it was too Tim Burton Halloween was kind of funny.
Mila's dress was horrific. I can't believe they let that sanitary pad of a color block dress be in the top three. It wasn't even sewn well, the seams were puckering and the pink showing through was fugly ugly.
Again, I missed next week's challenge. I'll be up for the surprise.

I thought the color of Michael's dress was grapefruit-y enough for me. I kind of felt sorry for the guest judge/model gal (can't remember her name) having to choose between those colors of Mondo's and then that pale pinkish dress of Michael's to wear to an "event." I would have cringed at having to wear either one to something major! I liked Austin's dress, but don't like glue guns. I'm with Tim on that! But there was that time constraint. Kenley's dress was very well made. It even had a zipper but I guess it probably was too plain. I thought the colors were right on.
I'm sure don't know what the reasoning of putting Mila in the top three was! They didn't explain that mess well enough to me.
Jerrell skates through every week. Why? I don't know. Yep, April's dress was way too short. I wish that gal had bought more fabric. Hopefully Kara will be leaving next week. I can't remember what the challenge was so I'll be surprised, too!

Jerrell, Jerrell. Just what kind of women do you know. I don't know anyone who would where anything like that! Of course, I am in my 50's but - still. Just what woman would want a skirt that low. Not the kind of woman I want to know! He should have gone home. What a mess. Although Anthony didn't follow the rules. Maybe that influenced their final decision.
Personally, I loved Austin's design and felt it should have won. And not just because I adore Austin. But, I felt like he really channeled his muse perfectly. She would have looked adorable in that outfit. She was too cute!!
I'm not quite sure why Mila and Michael were so upset about Kenley helping Kara. She didn't look like she was sewing. Just doing some fitting. But, then I suppose Mila and Michael wouldn't have given Kara an extra dollar. I have to say I did like Mila's pants though.
It seems the designers are leaving in almost the level of talent they are. Hopefully, we will see Jerrell finally go next week.

I'm so bummed that Anthony left. He just charmed the pants off everybody, didn't he? I adored him and I loved his design, yet, he didn't follow the challenge perimeters and that is the fatal flaw.

Jerrell's concoction was one hot mess. Never ever would I want to see that outfit on the street, much less a runway. Awful.

Mila and Michael can be gone next just on attitude alone. I was willing to give Michael slack after his beating on his season, but for him to turn around and be so bitchy too? C'mon Michael, you can't play the pity card both ways. And that outfit....hideousness.

Austin deserved the win. Mondo's was a pity win. Austin's was way better!!!!

Geez, I was holding my breath. I couldn't even look at my TV! Glad Austin and Mondo made it through sportswear - not their strong suits. I actually thought Austin's cardigan and top were cute, but I guess I'm not fashion forward. But, I liked it a lot better than Kara's boring ensemble of odd color pairings. Plus, Austin's pants were tailored a whole heck of a lot better than hers. But, then I am also biased.
Sorry to see Rami go as I feel his is more talented than a lot who are still there. I wish luck would have had it that Kara had to go head to head with him. I think we would have had a different outcome, but - oh, well.
Poor Mondo. Hey, guys, I'm just trying to eat my spaghetti here! :) Meeeowwww!
After Michael's gossiping of last week - no, Kenley was not finishing those pants! - and his "borrowing" of this week - he can go. And I don't even care for Jerrell!
I liked Kenley's outfit but was surprised it made it to the final two as it was just so darn simple! But, I'm glad she is still there.
I love Joanna's quiet calm demeanor. I was thinking it would be fun if Isaac was a mentor though! I'm not certain I care for him as a judge.
Glad Austin made it through for the Broadway challenge. I hope he does well there as he already has designed some costumes for theatre.

Michael has had that wandering eye accusation thrown at him before. His sketch was nothing like his finished look. And for a change I did like Jerrell's better...for once. Both of them can go without a second glance from me.
Kenley's was the same silhouette that we have seen before from her. The Peter Pan collars and princess seaming, jump suit (way too short IMHO) or dress, she keeps sewing the same outfit. Mondo's effort was just a sad mix. He is a bit of an emotional roller coaster.
Kara's outfit was a disconnect. I loved Austin's. It read to me of a Pulitzer kind of woman. The High Society lady would definitely wear that pretty outfit for a weekend trip and a bit of charitable fundraising. Kara's looked like pieces from Kohl's sale racks.
Rami, Rami, Rami, that ill fitting draped acid green was awful. She looked lopsided and oddly bound in the boob area. I did love the back drape of the coat. The colors were all wrong and the shirt was hideous.
I honestly can not remember what Mila made? I don't recall what she made? That is sad. She won over Rami but it wasn't important enough to recall .

I think Broadway inspired week will be a blast! So looking forward to it.

I was surprised they came down on Austin so hard for the top and cardigan. When I saw his sketch it looked to me like the top had some nice details to it. They hated his but they put Kenley in the top. Odd. It seems like the judges aren't consistent at times
Mila made a cape (her first, supposedly) and "Mila pants." Another silhouette we've seen before but she is in the top as well. I get so confused!
I loved the back of Rami's coat, too.
Mondo does seem to lose it sometimes. This time it was his mother's birthday. He lets his emotions sidetrack him. I'm glad he made it through.

The top two were gorgeous. And Mondo's creation was stunning. He struggled so hard in the beginning, but he pulled off a miraculous theatrical rich look. It was wonderful and I loved the mix of pattern.
Mila's was definitely early hooker on Rodeo Drive. UGH
Kara's suffered with proportion, what was up with the huge bow?
Jerrell's was boring and definitely not a favorite of mine.
Austin's was amazing. Loved his comeback to Issac. LOL. He is so endearing.
Kenley's suffered too much "vintage" influence and she forgot to up the ante to RICH beyotch.
Once again, craft strikes and I don't even remember Michaels' look? I certainly have an immediate visceral reaction to what I don't like and I do like and the others seems to fade from memory. LOL

I absolutely loved Mondo's beautiful creation. I loved the mix of the prints, I loved the cut, I loved the way it flowed. I loved it! I really liked Austin's as well. But - I really like Austin, too. :-)
Not sorry to see Kara go although Mila deserved to go just as much. It would have been more satisfying to see Mila go, but you know we won't get a break from her whining. I don't understand why she got so upset with Kenley and Kara liking each other. She's probably just pissed they don't want to hang around her.
Kenley didn't ante up the rich aspect, for sure. I liked the jacket though. It was beautifully cut and I loved the print and the colors. Oh - and Mila - she didn't have a meltdown when Kara got eliminated <insert rolling eyes here>.
Gee, this show makes me so catty! :-P
By the way - I forgot what Michael made as well. I'd love to forget Michael, too. Can't wait for him and Jerrell to go home!

I can't believe I got here before you! Okay. I was sweating it out for Austin. His draping was so tortured and the colors were so hard to work into a clear story. It wasn't his best effort by far.
Love Joanna Coles and her comments about designing for a woman with boobs and needing support and undergarments....thank you Joanna for mentioning the unsung woman in designer world. Stick thin models are not the norm and designing a draped dress for a size zero is not right. I'm thinking of Anya and her collection of frothy airy dresses...would never ever work on me.
Michael's was just awful with that wide open back...talk about needing double sided tape and that hideous bow on the shoulder. She was the draped Goddess of Greece.
Mila, Mila Mila, how could you see a mullet skirt and a schizophrenic half and half look as successful? It made me cringe. Bye Bye colorblock queen.
Jerrell...how literal could you get? I snorted in laughter when JC said it could be a National Costume. It was too much as his stuff usually is. Jerrell has to layer disparate colors and create some kind of scarf effect in all his stuff. I think he is trying to channel Mondo's aesthetic and he is doing it very poorly. An also ran.
Kenley, hmmm, a dress with polka dots. Who would have predicted that? LOL, Issac called her out for predictability, but she did a better job on interpreting the challenge. She did a credible job on creating a flag inspired Salsa style dress. I didn't hate it as much as I originally thought. Mondo certainly showed his passive-aggressive side in this show with his opinion of Kenley. Meow!
Mondo's dress was beautiful. I loved the stunning column of black with the surprise back detail. He showed a marvelous eye for restraint on this challenge. He was more focused and it showed.
This season has been a delight even though I had severe reservations at the beginning of the show, missing all the regulars as I did. I have grown to like Joanna. Still on the fence about Issac. I do like the judges critiques most of the time, their points are valid. I don't see an obvious bias toward any one designer, unlike the disappointing TC mess of a season. I'm going to be sad to see the end this year.

I'm really enjoying this season, too. I love seeing everyone again - which the exception of a few. I think Isaac would make a great mentor. I think he could give some great advice. I love Joanna though. Although I thought those yellow pants looked horrible on her.
Anya. Gad, I still do not understand why she won.
    Anyway -
I was so afraid Austin was going to go home. I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Even he knew his dress wasn't finished. I thought Jerrell's awful literal interpretation should have sent him home although I was not sorry to see Mila go. I wonder if she has any women friends. I cannot believe how bitter she seems. Jerrell's dress was just one big mess.
I thought that Kenley was going to be in the bottom. I really didn't like her dress that much. I was surprised that the judges liked it. It is interesting that she is the only woman left. I hope she steps it up and shows them something new next week. I would love it if she outlasted Jerrell and Michael. Even I am getting tired of her polka dots though. I thought what Michael said about the flag of the nation of Kenley having polka dots in it.
I absolutely hated Michael's dress. It looked beauty pageant queen. Period.
I really loved Mondo's surprise of color in the back of that beautifully cut black dress. Gorgeous. I have a feeling he may win the whole thing.
Did you watch the half hour show after?

My DVR cuts off the last 30 seconds of every show too. Was it really good? What did I miss?
Mondo's dress was beautiful and the cut was spectacular. I hope Jerrell goes next and then Michael. Leave it to Kenley, Austin and Mondo, final three....and let's see if Kenley can break out of the box with her designs. I didn't mind her flag dress as much as I thought I would, once I factored in the spirit of the challenge. But please no more polka dots.

Oh, that's so sad. Poor Liv. Glad you were there for her.
The show after was pretty good. The final five were there and Kara showed up as well. They interviewed Mila via satellite or something as she is/was designing for a movie and was on set. She was bitter, bitter, bitter and wasn't afraid to say that Jerrell should have gone home instead of her.
Joanna and Isaac were the hosts and they asked Austin, Kenley and Kara about the "trinity" - that being the three of them and their close friendship. They all answered well, I thought, about how they didn't think it was a problem to support each other and help each other out, citing how tough it is to be in the competition and how stressful it can be. I think it was kinda aimed at Mila as they asked about it pretty much right after her televised interview. Austin said he had never met the two "lovely ladies" until the All Stars competition.
They asked Mondo about his cutting remarks about Kenley but he seemed to think they were taken out of context. She didn't seem to mind. She is actually very nice this time around! I read an interview with her and she said she intended to be and she certainly is doing just that. She said she didn't think trash talking was necessary in the competition. I think that was aimed at Mila as well because they asked her about it right after they showed that clip where Mila said Kenley was "sewing" Kara's pants.
So - all in all - the show was very interesting. Gonna be on after next week's episode as well! Set the DVR! :-D

Thanks for the recap. I appreciate it. I'll program the DVR now. I don't want to miss a minute. Figured Mila would be bitter. She was a bit of a pill all season. I watched the show after and got rather confused. Isaac said the designers weren't allowed contact with their families but Austin got to call his mother. ??

She is so much more likeable this season. Loved her HAIR styling too. So thrilled Austin won without NEON! I loved the after show!! So fun. Yep, her yellow pants were a big miss. I really liked her interaction with the designers. I think it was an manipulative edit from the producers to have Austin talk to his mom. Isn't his complexion flawless? High def TV loves his face!
