Chicago Hot Dog

Well, the family was having chili dogs tonight, so I figured, if I'm going to be stuffing my face with a hot dog, why not my FAVORITE type of hot dog :-D I think my favorite part about this recipe is that you brush the outside of the buns with egg whites, sprinkle with the poppy seeds and bake them for a few minutes. Perfect! The only thing I didn't have was the pickle spears, BUT I had pickle slices, so I used those. I didn't do the initial wiener bake, which I didn't really understand anyway, I just threw them all on the grill for the whole cook time. To anyone who has never had a Chicago dog, try it, SOOOO amazing :) :)

We prefer grilled. I used to eat hotdogs when I was a kid. I hardly eat them now. Guess cuz it has a lot of sodium. Great photo!

The poppy seed bun really makes this a great hot dog Shona :)

Thanks Linda! I can see the Chicago style not being a favorite for everyone, has ton's of stuff on it lol.

I hardly ever eat hot dogs anymore either Cheryl, but every once in a while, I indulge :)

I make mine somewhat different but these look delightful! Except the pickled peppers, don't like those. And I don't use poppy seeds as hubs has dentures and always worried about a poppy seed getting lodged, lol. (sorry, not a pretty visual there, lol) I also, do not ever use food coloring. But I do use the tomatoes, relish, pickle and also diced onions. I build my hotdogs, which I butterfly and fry, on the bun and then brush melted butter along the top sides of the buns instead of egg white and then add some cheese on top and broil for just a few seconds til the cheese gets melty. I like a somewhat burnt, crispy crust that the butter does when they are broiled.
