Coconut Hot Chocolate

Made this for the December Recipe Challenge: Category Holiday Beverages

I thought this was delicious BUT there was hardly any "chocolate" flavor. Not sure if it needed more cocoa or maybe a few pieces of chocolate chips thrown in to melt? The cayenne pepper (yes I did use it) scared me, and after I sprinkled some in, I was thinking I had done too much. After first sip though, I didn't taste it at all, but after a few more, there was a tingling sensation in my throat, and I knew it was the cayenne :) Next time I think I'd add even a little more! Wish I had a Christmas mug for the picture, but my straw is Christmas-y :P Used the mug Caiden made for me at school for Christmas last year. Whoops, added 1 extra picture onto the recipe than I wanted to, oh well :\

Just looking at the title, I thought it was hot chocolate with actual coconut in it :p It looks like it can be made with regular milk, too. And that touch of cayenne would really warm you up - haha!

    Thanks Nadine :)

That was my first thought too Bakerme about coconut :P. Yes I think any milk sou work..I would love to try it with almond milk!

Yup Linda, I'll double the cocoa next time and see if that's any better.

That looks great, Mommyluvs2cook! Cute mug! I was thinking it was a coconut flavored drink, too! One teaspoon isn't much chocolate unless you are using a rich variety of chocolate like the Mexican brands of cocoa. What we call semi-sweet would be their milk chocolate. Otherwise, I'd use 1 tablespoon of cocoa because I like chocolate-y drinks.

Looks great Michelle! I love the homemade mug :)
I would use a Tablespoon of cocoa powder as well, that's usually the ratio I use per serving of hot chocolate. I'd be afraid to use the cayenne too, glad to hear it tasted good! :D
