Cottage pie

    ~Made for January 2019's "Casserole" recipe challenge~

    Cottage Pie by DetroitTokyo

I was searching for Shepherd's pie recipes and came across this. She used ground turkey but said ground beef is ok so that's what I used.
I followed the mashed potato recipe to a "T", and I really liked the chives and garlic in it!
For the meat filling, I used thyme instead of parsley, a whole onion instead of half and an extra clove of garlic. I used a little more of that since I had slightly more then a pound of beef (1.3 lbs). But I kept all the other amounts the same and it worked out great. Oh, and I did use half peas and corn instead of a whole cup of corn. And it fit perfectly in a 9x13" casserole dish.
The whole family loved it and went back for seconds! So two thumbs up from them!
I took a picture of it cold from the fridge this morning as it didn't hold up well for a photo last night. :)

    Thanks Manella! :)
Have you tried Bren's recipe before? Shepherds Pie it has no flour either, uses oats for thickening. I was going to try that but used all my oats in an apple crisp (that I'll post soon). ;)
duuuhhh, just looked at the reviews on Bren's recipe! LOL! :P

That’s funny Shona, Bren’s is good and we like it, just want to try more that are out there:))) Sometimes a change is better then a rest🤗🤗🤗
Apple crisp? One of my hubby’s favourite, when he has dessert which is not very often.
    Looking forward to seeing it...

Gorgeous photo, Cosmicmother! I'm drooling! Good idea to take the picture after it had been refrigerated and set up. The peas really give it added color. I love colorful food!
