    Czechoslovakian Bar Cookies

Wow this is fantastic. I used homemade strawberry jam this time but plan to try other jams. LOL not much left right and I have requests to make again.

I have that one saved, Nadine. Good to hear a nice review of it before I try it.

Oh Bakerme just remember to not put the jam right to the edge. If you leave it just a little away there where will be no over flow on top.

This is one that I really want to make for Christmas day, perhaps even for Santa's cookie plate :) Thanks for the tip on the jam, I could see myself having it everywhere lol :P

Nadine, Thank you for the wonderful review! I'm so happy this recipe worked for you and that your family enjoyed them! A little pan doesn't last long, especially if you have boys. I read your review about the bake times. It seems to bake different for everyone. My mother's original recipe says to bake 1hr., but if I did that they would be toast. Mine are golden brown and done at 30 min. My brother says he leaves them in 45 min. His come out exactly like mine. Maybe it's the type of pan we use. Glad you kept an eye on them so they didn't get over baked.

Mommyluvs2cook, I used to help my mom bake when I was little. This is one we made all of the time. I can remember trying to "spread" the dough across the top. It won't spread and it pushes the jam everywhere. I used to press out small pieces and try to patch it together. Credit my brother with the idea of rolling it out first and then putting it on top. Makes you wonder why they didn't think of that back in the old days. lol!

Hi DIZ3 Also the type of oven one has makes a big difference in the baking time. I know that mine runs hotter then most. It had a self cleaning mode (LOL when clock broke this not longer works) so as result it is well insulated and retains the heat for a long time. So I always cut back the temp by about 50 degrees and then check at about 10 minutes before the time a recipe calls for check to see if it done.

Just an update on this wonderful recipe. I used homemade strawberry rhubarb and family enjoyed them again. This was an actual request from DH to do again and he does not ask for much in desserts as he is not a dessert kind of person. Would much rather fill up on dinner.

Nadine, I'm so glad your family enjoys this recipe! Men really seem to favor this one for some reason. It's the only cookie my hubby cares if I make. My brother makes several batches at a time and freezes them. They do freeze well.
