    Hawaiian Pork by Crossfire

This is a great sweet n' sour pork recipe! Loved it! Even my son, who has never liked sweet n' sour anything, loved it! :D
I love the egg dip and cornstarch coating before stir frying the pork pieces, it gave it a nice crisp coating and authentic Chinese food type taste to it. I'm not sure what is Hawaiian about the recipe, perhaps the pineapple juice? But there wasn't really a pineapple taste to it though. I think there could have been some pineapple pieces added to the stir fry to give it more pineapple taste. But it was still a good sauce anyways!
I had just over a pound of pork instead of the 2lbs called for, and it was plenty enough pork for the 4 of us. However I doubled the pea amount called for; the recipe calls for 1/4lb of snow or sugar snap peas and I used a 1/2lb of sugar snaps. So in the end, half the pork and double the peas probably balanced out the sauce amount! I couldn't find a green pepper so I used an orange one along with the red one.
I initially tried to reduce the sugar but it was way too vinegary so I ended up with the full amount and it was a great balance of sweet and sour. During the stir fry process I added a little more pineapple juice as the sauce was thickening up too quickly, so you might want to have extra on hand just in case.
At the end, I added a little bit of black pepper and a pinch of salt as it needed it, but I did use reduced sodium soy sauce. I may try this again with some ginger slices and perhaps garlic too. And for more pineapple taste some pineapple slices! :)

That looks awesome! Nice photo, Cosmicmother! I've made sweet 'n sour pork and chicken before using a cornstarch batter. I agree it makes it like authentic Chinese food. I think there is a lot Asian influence in Hawaiian cooking. You will see some similarities.

Great picture Shona! I, like your son, am not a fan of sweet and sour type dishes but you sure make it look good and I'm thinking if he liked it I probably would too. Homemade is always so much better.

    Thanks everyone! :)
I agree Linda, homemade is so much better! This is better than any sweet n' sour pork we've ordered from a restaurant.
I was just thinking that I didn't really taste the pineapple juice, but if I used water it probably wouldn't have the same flavour-- so it's probably one of those things you'd miss if it wasn't there. :)
