    Indulgent Irish Oatmeal With Berries
Recipe made for IMI2's March 2019 "Irish or Green" challenge. The recipe title says "Irish" even though I'm not really sure what is Irish about the recipe but then again I'm not all that familiar with Irish cuisine. I know McCann's brand is an Irish brand and the oats are grown in Ireland.

My review: Good standard recipe for making steel cut oats. I like that the oats are pan toasted first. I do not care for straight-up buttermilk but I do love heavy cream with oats and used it instead. Delicious!

Yum, that looks delicious Linda! Great photo! I never thought about putting buttermilk in oatmeal, but I do love yogurt. :)
Steel cut oats are often called/labelled Irish Oats--because of how they are processed differently than Scottish Oats or rolled oats found elsewhere. It's really just a term for Steel Cut Oats. :)

Wow, what a great photo Linda! Do you drizzle with any honey or maple syrup at the end or just eat it as is? Anytime I eat oatmeal I have to have it sweetened up some, wish I could get out of that habit!!

Looks good! I don't claim to be an expert on Irish cuisine, but somewhere in the back of my mind I think the Irish people eat a lot of "oat cakes." I have no idea why I think that.....or maybe I am thinking of the Scots.

Quite a mathematical recipe. According to my muse; 2PI=1/4cup. A length to volume formula I still have to fathom.

MrsJ, you are correct, my husband is of Irish decent and oatcakes are the cookie that was and is still served in most restaurants or diners.
,Most people around here serve it to guests with tea. I use my MIL recipe when i make them.

    Thanks Everyone!
I best like the leftovers cold with a drizzle of maple syrup and heavy cream. If I have fruit to top then I do, sometimes walnuts or pecans are nice too but I'm happy with just enough maple syrup to ever so slightly sweeten and the heavy cream to make them indulgent.
