My New Dips

  • Ladybug_MrsJ 7 years ago
So....as you may recall, I was looking for some new dip recipes to have some healthy snacks on hand. Not sure if the recipes we review in this group are supposed to come from this website. Mine don't.

    GREEK FAVA
I read a couple recipes and then went to the kitchen and made it without following any particular recipe. I opted for a version without garlic since all our dip recipes seem to contain garlic. I also used mixed herbs, instead of either the parsley or thyme suggested in the recipes. This recipe is a keeper. The caramelized onions simmered with yellow split peas tasted surprisingly like chicken. My husband said the same thing. If I were to make it again, I might opt to make it in my pressure cooker since my PRESOAKED (24 hours) split peas took 70 minutes to become soft - the legumes I buy from the Iranian market tend to hold their shape well compared to similar ingredients from the health-food store. Here are the recipes I read:

    WHITE BEAN DIP

This Allrecipes recipe was lovely! I had never used white kidney beans as a dip base before, and I really liked the relatively neutral taste. I can imagine lots of tasty variations on this. As a person who can't have dairy, this has the nice creamy texture that I am missing out on without dairy. I will definitely make this again:

    VALENTINE'S DAY DIP

I did a web search for "Valentine's Day Dip" and found the following recipe with a garnish in the shape of a heart. I did my own take on the recipe, using Chipotle peppers instead of roasted red peppers for my sweetie, a.k.a. "fire breather." He liked it but I won't make it again (my adaptation of this recipe). To me, it tasted like salsa, and I would rather eat salsa if it tastes like salsa. Again, this recipe used white kidney beans, and I just happened to have some cooked in the fridge from my other white-bean dip experiment.

Hi Mrs.J! The dips looks fantastic, especially the Greek Fava! Thanks for adding the links too :)

Normally we just review recipes from this site in here, but this is okay, always love seeing new recipes from anywhere!

    Yummy looking dips, MrsJ!

I didn't know we could review recipes from other sites in here. Good, because I made some Valentine cookies from another site yesterday, so will post a review now. Thanks, Mommyluvs!

Hi Bakerme! I do love seeing recipes from all over, but I really don't want this group to start being bombarded with an insane amount of recipes from other sites either. It will get pretty confusing, and make it hard for me to manage. Every once in a while is ok, but I'd like to it mainly just stay recipes from Groupme :)
