    Panera Turkey, Apple Cheddar Sandwich
    By Twill10

    A great sandwich!
I use to never eat sweet with meat (never apple sauce with pork, or cranberry sauce with turkey etc..) But over the last few years I've discovered all these new flavours that I've been missing out on!
Now I still won't put applesauce on pork chops or cranberry sauce on turkey, it's about finding the right balance of sweetness to tangy in a savoury dish. And this sandwich has it!
The tangy dressing on the slaw pairs so well with the smoked deli turkey, extra sharp cheddar cheese, and sweet apple. You get a little sweet from the dried cranberries, and a crunch from the cabbage and walnuts. So yummy!
I used whole grain bread with pumpkin and sunflower seeds instead of the marbled rye bread. And used mixed baby greens instead of the butter lettuce called for.
The only thing I'll change next time is adding sliced apple to the sandwich rather than adding chopped apples to the slaw. That way you get apple in every bite.
I think the only thing that could make this sandwich better is bacon! lol! ;)

Nice photo, Cosmicmother! This is something we would like. It is funny how our tastes change over time. I've never liked fruit with meat, but have recently developed a love for orange flavored meat dishes. DH has always liked pineapple on anything and everything.

    Thanks everyone! :)

Don, my Mom and her British relatives love jam and cheddar sandwiches! I always thought it was weird and never tried it.. I'll have to give it a try now!

Diz, they say your taste buds change every 5-7 years. I think there is some truth to that because there are many things I eat now that I never would have 10-20 yrs ago! ;)
