Pecan Puffs

    ~Made for Christmas 2018's Cookie Swap~

    Pecan Puffs by Good4U

Finally! I made them! I've been meaning to make these for at least two years now.
The smell of these baking brought back holiday nostalgia. And so did the taste. I phoned my parents yesterday and asked my Mom if she made these before, and she said the only thing with pecans she use to make were Pecan Sandies, and the name brought it back! These are just like the pecan sandies my mom use to make and I had completely forgot about them! I think the name depends on the region you're from; they also seem familiar with Mexican Wedding cookies and Russian tea cakes.

The only thing I did differently was check on them early. I did bake them at 300F, but mine were done in 30minutes rather than 45minutes. I did scour similar recipes and there seems to be baking times ranging from 20-45 minutes at 300F, so check on them early. Anything from altitude, humidity, and varying ovens or baking sheets can effect the cook time.

These are so delicious! As Joce mentions in the recipe they get better with age, so I waited a couple days before trying them. I found a good hiding place where the kids couldn't find them and made them peanut butter blossoms as a distraction! LOL ;)
They melt in your mouth but are still crumbly and chewy from the nuts. A delicious nutty, buttery cookie...mm..mm...mm..and they are addicting. I think I'm going to keep these ones away from the kids, hahaha ;)

GMTA Shona! I`ve made these numerous times already in the past but made another batch this morning to have on hand incase company drops by. I find the 45 min. cook time perfect for me. As you say, different things affect the cook time. Your photo is lovely. In today`s batch I also threw in 1/4 cup of Skor bits I had left over in the pantry. :)

Too funny Janet! Yes, our Great minds think alike! Lol ;) Oooh I like the Skor bit addition, great idea! When I was making them I thought about maple extract, or perhaps a few chopped glacée cherries. But the skor bits sound perfect! :)

You made my day, Shona! Love the pic! It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas now:) I have these on my list to make as well. Love the Skor idea! Janet. We used to call these Snow Balls as well as Pecan Puffs. I remember Points using almond extract in them and rum flavour I think? Lol, I have to hide them b/c I always give a cookie tin full of them to my son for Xmas. He loves them.

Joce, I'm happy to have made your day! :) My son had some after dinner last night and he loved them too! His eyes closed and all he said was "mmmm", so that's a sign of loving it! ;)

    Awww, thanks Diz! :)

    Thanks Linda! :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed these Shona! I have made them pretty much every year, not this year yet, but the season isn't over yet :) They definitely get better with age! I keep mine in a tin and pull them out as needed/wanted. Can't wait to get them made!!
