Split Pea Soup in Slow-Cooker

  • LindaLMT 6 years ago
I've made this soup before and like it so much I made it again today for IMI2's slowcooker/crockpot challenge.
It's so easy to make, comes out wonderful, and tastes great!
I do make a slight change and use 4 c. of stock because that's what's in a box and then bring up the liquid content using 1 c. of water. I add some diced celery and I like to season with thyme. I like pea soup thick so I added 1 large potato to the mix but kept the chunks big so I could fish them out and mash them well and add them back to the soup to naturally thicken it more and wlll add a little bit of cream to an individual bowl to taste.
    It freezes great too.

My parents love split pea soup and make it often! I've never been much of a fan, but I haven't tried it in eons! I might have to try it again ;)

My kids have never had it, I'm not sure if my DH has or not? But he'll eat anything, lol ;) I can't see the kids liking it but you never know until you try!
I just realized this is Beshy's recipe, I haven't seen her around here in ages!

To me it taste like potato soup ... just a different color. Beshy uses another screen name after getting locked out, she is now Bakerme.

I was thinking the same about the potato soup, but it's the colour that would put the kids off. Thats probably why I didn't like it as a kid. But worth trying again for sure!!
Oh, I didn't know Beshy and Bakerme were the same! LOl ;)

I think my DH would eat this and maybe even my kids? I would have to sub out Bacon for the ham, since my kids have both decided they don't like ham :\

OH-Boy. I could be wrong now that you said that Shona. I'm confused even more now. Hopefully someone can set me straight.
I bet split pea would be great with bacon Michelle!

Thanks for clearing that up Shona, lol! It is confusing Linda, with so many people being locked out and having to make up new accounts. It get's hard to keep up!

Your photo looks delicious, Linda! My husband used to *love* pea soup. I never cared for it, but tried this recipe when soups were the theme for the recipe challenge last year. He decided his tastes had changed over the years and it was no longer a favorite. This rescipe is good as far as pea soup goes, but I didn't want to review it just because neither of us likes pea soup now.

By the way, I used to be bestcooker and am now bakerme. Beshy is someone else entirely!
