Recipe by Lor: Crock Pot Pinto Beans
Good beans. Four hours wasn't enough crock time. Added two more.
No celery so added a tablespoon of celery seeds. Also added a quarter pound of cut-up bacon.

I was going to ask you if you had added any meat to it. That sounds really good, P.

What I did with my great northerns yesterday... after I had fully soaked them, I drained off the salt water and put them in the slow cooker on low overnight with fresh unsalted water. Then today, I fried up some cubed ham, onions, carrots, celery, and garlic in the stockpot. Then I added the cooked beans to the pot and gave it a few twists of the pepper mill. I also added some chicken soup base/water as needed. It turned out fairly well. I have enough for tomorrow, and Ma's gonna make cornbread.

I love the crockpot method with dry beans. I have a baked black beans recipe I'm going to try soon.
