mac and cheese doctored up

  • laurieg 15 years ago
This is one by leebear that the kids LOVE!!! I mean love... I have made it quite a few times and I plan on making it again tonight. Very easy recipe that I have even doctored up when I don't have the right tomatoes. I have made it once with a can of tomato paste and added extra water. I have made it with crushed tomatoes, I have also added extra pasta to make more because it just barely feeds a family of four... If you have kids this is a great throw together recipe on the nights when you have alot of running around.

Thanks Laurie! I like the idea of doctoring up the mac and cheese! I don't use the boxed kind but I can do this to my homemade one!

When the kid's are little, sometimes ya just havta do the box thing. It is funny I bought the Kraft mac and cheese and the kids wouldn't eat it.. They only like the Store brand (Market basket). Cheaper for me

Ok...the teen had an orchestra concert tonite. We just snacked before and came home and of course everyone is hungry. Middle schoolers on strings playing Christmas music tends to make you ravenous it seems. LOL

Ever since you posted this to the group, Laurie, I've been thinking about it. I love to play 'doctor' with boxed stuff. Anyway, I made 2 boxes of the mac but only had 1/2 lb. of sausage. So I cut the recipe in half and left the other box for the picky ones....no stewed tomatoes, but I had diced. I'm thinking it turned out pretty good and Fast!

And I hear you on the picky mac and cheese eaters....except here it has to be the blue box. And not because of the kids, but the dad!

I forgot, I have also made it with a mix of ground hamburger and ground sausage because that was what I had on hand..Still loved it. I doctor everything and so far I have had success I hade having to buy one thing that you normally wouldn't have to try a recipe.
