Fire call Friday

After hitting the sack at about midnight, we were super tired from getting the hay in. 400 bales in two days. We unloaded the last of it around 8, and the thunderstorm hit right after crawling into bed. So glad it is over. It has been hard to do much haying this season due to excess rain and too few days of sunshine. Such is life.

The fire radio went off at 4:55 A.M. - medical call (lift assist) about 25 miles away. By 7:30 we were released, and decided to have breakfast at a nearby (well, close for this area) restaurant. Our fire response / farm pickup is loaded with hay and my car only has 103 miles on the tank, so we had to take the red truck. Which meant we had to go back, get my car key, and move it from in front of the garage door where the red truck was.

We are home, tired, and waiting for them to come pick up the tractor. It is pouring rain, thunder rumbles in the distance, and the noise on the metal roof is deafening. I could use a bit of sleep, but the three cups of coffee this morning is still doing its thing. I think I need another one. Sigh!

My car is outside in the rain, because his tractor is in my car's stall in the garage, My tractor and the baler are also outside in the rain, because a trailer load of hay bales is still in their slots in the barn waiting to be put in the loft. Until the hay is put up, they will stay outside. I have a feeling that his buddy won't be here to do that because of the early fire call....I imagine he probably took a nap afterward, since we were all extra tired from haying.

Wayne doesn't want the chickies to be out in the rain because they are not bright and may not know enough to come inside. I disagree, but since it is pouring rain they are probably better off inside. Domestic turkeys are another matter; in a lightning storm they are know to huddle together and suffocate half of them. He is ready to get a rooster and a few more hens, but they would have to be raised separately from these until we could mingle the two sets. Nine hens will probably be quite sufficient, at least for now.

No photos to add. so if anyone has any to post, feel free to copy and paste. I guess that is enough for today. Have a good day!

Glad you were able to get the hay in before it started to rain, Karen. Haying is such a big job! No doubt you are all exhausted from doing that, let alone the middle of the night fire call! I hope you all get a good sound sleep tonight. I am not up to too much today. Den is having rib eye steak and fries and I may have a small rib eye as well with a baked potato and sauteed mushrooms.

Sending all the best of luck to you Laurie, on getting that job.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi, Joce. Rib eye sounds wonderful. I have two pork chops that need to be fixed. Will bake or fry them and fry some onions and mushrooms to go with. And fresh spinach.

Tractor has been picked up and on its way to the shop. Rain is forecast for next week so we probably couldn't cut hay anyhow. 160 bales to go to be sure we have enough for the season, then he will cut some on our place for a friend. Plus bale for a few other folks who want square bales.

Mauser is asleep on my chest, one arm supporting her. They had a rampaging session while Wayne allegedly watched them. He is not good at kitten control. They knocked the sound bar down from the TV ("Oh, So that is what I heard.") and he was oblivious. I gave him an F in kitty-sitting.

    Tina, how are you?

    Marie?

    Have a good day!

The medicine they have me on knocked me out. I slept 26 hours. Didn't even get up for a bathroom call. No food eaten and no water sipped. Olivia came in to make sure I was breathing.

Been doing laundry, dishwasher duty. Olivia is going to see an Irish Band tonight.
I'm doing PT on right arm well. Left arm (lymph nodes to breast) still hurts from infection.

Lola has taken to sleeping on my head, her head on my forehead and her paws covering my ears. Instead of a raccoon cap, I have a pugcap. Charlie was howling while I was in the shower and I missed a delivery that required a signature. Will have to get to Fed ex tomorrow.

Haying is lot of work. You need a rest. "F" in kitty sitting won't keep them house cats versus barn cats. Just sayen' I've heard of turkeys drowning but not chickens. 3 doors down we have backyard chickens, no rooster they aren't allowed in urban coops..

Marie, I hope you are well. Best to Rick.
    Safe travels Janet,
Shona, your pictures are lovely. Jersey is pretty.
Good Luck to our Lucky Laurie on the job.
    Joce, enjoy those steaks tonight.
Michelle, keep cool dear. I'm sure you are poolside.

One huge sinkhole opening up in New Port Richey in front of one house and two smaller depressions. at adjacent houses. Might lose three houses over night. How scary.

    Hi Tina.

Sinkholes are common in Missouri, too. The new golf course that opened last year I think, and this year a huge hole appeared. The gov. Is investigating. Quicksand has been around a lot too. A friend of ours can not leave machinery in one field or it sinks under the ground. Weird.

Hope you are feeling better. 26 hours sleep is quite a bit. Aargh! Wayne's muscle cramp meds knock him for a loop. He has been waking up with severe muscle cramps due to all the haying....esp. climbing in and out of the tractor all afternoon.

I can see why roosters are nuisances in the city, what with all the crowing at O-dark-thirty!

We are missing a chicken. It just up and disappeared. Searched the coop, moved shelves, looked outside to be sure it had not been left outdoors, it dust vanished with no traces of entry or violence. I want Wayne to put a game camera up to capture pix of any problems so we know what we are dealing with. He will probably wait until I get after him again or we lose another one, but I wanted it done yesterday! LOL!

Geezer has arrived on theorch, so I must go feed him before Blondie invades his kingdom. Have nice day, what is left of it.
