Wednesday's Weather

  • LindaLMT 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone. It's Wednesday, middle of the week and hoping all is going as well as well can be for everyone.

An uneventful morning so far and want it to stay that way. I like routine, calm, no surprises, etc.
Looks like another typical day of high temps, humidity, and possible storms. What's the weather like where you are?

Janet, were you able to get your mom to Rainy River and settled?
Is the hay all bailed and out of the fields Karen?
Shona, how is your neck? and has the smoke cleared any?
Did you drive to Carleton Place yesterday Joce?
Laurie, how are you feeling today after your foot operation?
How are you liking your new vacuum Kimmer?

I'm ok. The pain is manageable but feeling a little light headed and nauseous. They did give me some meds so I just took them. I think I was dehydrated. I drank so much yesterday but stopped before bed I think the pain killers dehydrated me. Even my eyes felt dry.
Just going to take it easy today.

It'll take your body a day maybe two to work the anesthesia out but you are doing the right thing rehydrating. Taking it easy sounds like the best medicine Laurie. When do you go back for the post-op checkup?

Wowwzers!! Just got an email from our association noting that a large pack of coyotes are in the development. The warning is especially for people with small animals, small children, etc. This came from the hog trapper. We have wild hogs and trappers are called in because of the damage they do and it was they who spotted them. Now what constitutes a large pack is yet to be determined? Is it 3-4 ... is it 6-8 ... 10-12 ...

Hope you feel better, Laurie. It is very important to stay hydrated, for sure! Hoping when the anesthesia wears off you feel much better.

Wow on the storms Linda. It is just hot....hot....hot and more hot here for the next few days.

Coyotes are resourceful critters and will take out dogs, even the size of boxers, with ease. A pack near us would have one of their females in heat prance around the field until an intact male dog came sniffing around, then the pack would ambush and kill him. It seems they regard large dogs as competitors and small ones as dinner. They kill cats also. I have not heard of any children being harmed; but esp. in Florida with alligators looking for an easy meal, I would automatically be on the lookout for such creatures.

In MO it is copperheads that we watch for. And now feral hogs. I saw more evidence of rooting by them. Usually we carry a large enough caliber for self defense from them, although that is always a last resort. Generally it is better to just leave the area, esp. when they have babies.

I pulled some basil and stevia to freeze. First time trying that. The berries are mostly gone and it is too hot to pick what is left....the wildlife will enjoy them, I am sure.

Send rain here if you are getting too much, we could use some.

Hi Linda, wow on the coyotes! I watched a documentary on city coyotes. So many roam around schools and all throughout towns and cities and hardly anyone ever sees them. We have a large pack behind our house near the lake. I never see them, but hear them at night occasionally. They usually stay away from humans during the day, the biggest worry would be cats as they like to roam at night when the coyotes do. When I get the mail from the Post Office, I always see a ton of missing cat posters, I can only guess what happened to them :S

Hi Laurie, the worst feeling is dehydration from the morphine! Hopefully the pain med's they give you at home won't be as bad. I hope you have a great recovery and you'll be on your feet soon, take care! :)

Hi Janet, I hope you got your Mom back to Rainy and the trip went well.

Hi Karen, we have the feral dogs here too--just too many for rescue groups to keep up with. But they do have mobile vans that go out and spay and neuter as many as they can twice a year and take the pregnant ones in. That's how we got Roxy. Her mom was pregnant and was from a pack of garbage dump dogs. Yikes on the copperheads! We have rattle snakes and scorpions a little south of us, hopefully I'll never see one ;)

Not much happening here today. My neck is about 60% better, I can turn it some more and have a better range of motion, it will probably be fine after a couple more days. The smoke is terrible! It's suppose to be hot and humid today too, so I'll just use the portable air conditioner we have to keep the house cool as it recycles the indoor air. I have to take my asthma inhaler, just opening the door to let the dogs out causes me to cough. The news said today might be one of the worst days for air quality, the fire near Banff is getting worse, plus the wind is still blowing the BC fire smoke this way. Just one more reason why I should live west of the Cascade mountains, lol ;)
Dinner will probably be burgers, I'll get Pete to grill them when he gets home. I'm going to do some more genealogy research today. I was on a roll last night and finally cracked a mystery. Hey Joce, some of my Martyn Cornish/Devonshire family came to Perth, Ont....maybe we're distant cousins, lol ;)

Have a great day everyone! :)

Do tell Shona ... what mystery was cracked? (if not too personal and you want to share). Happy to hear your neck is feeling a little better. Wow on the smoke and fires still getting worse.

I've never seen a wild coyote Karen. They didn't see where exactly they were seen other than that they were in the development. Maybe if all the construction and destruction of land would stop things like this wouldn't be a "problem". There was an article in the paper the other day about coyotes attacking and taking a small pet dog from it's back yard. Again, I blame the owners who knew there were coyotes in the woods behind them, acknowledged their damaged fence that the dog got out of, let the small dog out at night ... I mean REALLY?! no common sense.

Just a quick hello. I'm in town to pick up a few groceries and we're heading back to the lake in a few minutes. I'll have to read back a few days to see what everyones been up to. So very cold there last week but the weather has shifted and it's much warmer this week. Take care everyone.

Hey Linda, I go back and forth between several families while searching. I came back to my Grandmothers family after a few months and finally found out how my great-great Grandfather died. ( I always seem to find more info after I stop searching for awhile!) We knew he was in the Royal Navy, and my Mom recalled stories of him dying at sea. But I finally found his name in a war memorial. He died Nov. 1 1914, Battle of Coronel, when the Germans sank his ship ( he was on one of two boats that were sunk- HMS Good Hope or HMS Monmouth) He served in the Royal Garrison Artillery Division, and was a Leading Stoker (refuelling the arsenal) so he wasn't in the Navy, but worked for them. Those ships were the first to leave Port at the start of the war, 1600 sailors died that day.
I also found out a lot more about his wife and her family today. I love putting the pieces together! I couldn't find when her mother was born, but after deep, deep digging I found out her mother was married before (making her maiden name different!) So now I know! Thank goodness for Cornwall Parish records, they have documented so much online now. :)

Janet? I hope everything is ok!?

Air quality index goes from 1-10. 10 and above being extreme, we are currently at an 11 and it's suppose to be higher by this evening and tomorrow. I can't imagine it getting much worse then this! The smoke is so thick I can't see above my trees or the farm fields behind my house. Hoping that the expected rain for tomorrow night puts the fires out and this smoke dissipates.

    Hi Bren!

Interesting genealogical information, Bren. We can go back to 1700's on my mom's side but the records connecting the ship passenger list to European records were destroyed in WWII. Dad's side only goes back a few generations. 1910 (I think) Ohio census records were lost in a fire, and there are confusing entries in the 1920. The same person was about 5 generations back on both my mom's parents' genealogy.

    See you later.

Just a quick hello here too. Janet, hoping everything went well for the trip back to Rainy River. Check in when you can.

Chicken Chimichungas and Spanish rice here tonight. Nice change out of the ordinary and hit the spot.

Hope all enjoy the rest of the day.

Wow Shona!! What a great find on your family's lineage and so much information too.
and Wow again on the smoke! I too hope you get a good rain to hopefully dampen the fires and clear the air. I just can't imagine.

One of these days I'll have to start researching my family and see how far I get. It's be interesting.

    Hi Karen! Hi Kimmer!

    Hi Karen, Hi Kimmer!

Linda, I recommend starting with FamilyResearch.org It's all free and you don't have to sign if you don't want to. I've found about 85% of my info there, the other bits on google searches, Parish records and gov't websites. I haven't had to pay a thing! :)
