Hi :)

I have a confession...I had an agenda when I created this group. I'm not trying to be preachy, but I feel really frightened when I realize there are some people out there who may never know what it's like to eat a meal that is fresh off of a farm. I know I'm really lucky to have access to produce that is the next best thing to growing it myself. I figure if I can influence one person to eat one meal that is seasonal, and maybe they got one item from a farm stand or farmers' market or a friend, then I have dripped one more drop in the ocean of change. Support your local farmers if you have the opportunity!

    Thank you :)

I agree 100% dancegypsy - I don't want to sound preachy either, but it is a bit scary to see so many young people (now I'm making myself sound old!!) living on a diet of only processed or fast food. If this site - and these specialty groups - can get ANYONE interested in "cooking from fresh", it will be a wonderful thing!!!

    "young people"...LOL

I feel like I grew up in between two worlds. As long as I can remember, my mom was on some fad diet or another, we ate our share of TV dinners and there was always diet soda in the house (I didn't grow up drinking water, or milk or juice for that matter - it's amazing I had any energy with as dehydrated as I've been most of my life). At the same time, we had a garden and apple trees, and I learned how to can tomatoes. I still eat in between those two worlds - I've stopped drinking diet soda and only on occasion a regular one...I'm a water girl now - but, yeah, I'm scared. I read something very recently that suggested the term 'local' was going to "enjoy the same success" as 'organic' did however many years ago (it was either 10 or 20, but I'm at a loss to which one it is). Ya know...I really hope that's a successful prediction.

    So much to say...
