Tips and Tricks

Here are a few of mine:

Make a casserole like chicken with mixed vegs in a cream of some kind of soup sauce. Put HOT mixture in casserole and top with cornbread batter. Cook as for cornbread. Voila! pot pie.

Left over Beef stew works well too.

You can make gravy with ANY liquid. Try liquid from canned vegs or make sauce from canned salmon juice. One of the best sauces I made was from the liquid from braising brats in beer.

When roasting turkey or chicken or even pot roast, add some water to cover the bottom of the pan during the last 20-30 minutes or so. The drippings will come up easier for your gravy.

Put a few drops of lemon juice on your hands to get rid of garlic and onion smells, OR wipe your hands on your stainless steel sink (really).

Hard boiled eggs: to keep eggs from bursting, keep the water and eggs temperatures the same. Cold eggs cold water. Salting the water makes them easy to peel.

    Your turn. Whatcha got?

If you don't have a stainless steel sink for following Zhizara's posted trick of ridding hands of garlic/onion smell, any stainless steel will do. I've washed my hands under running water while rubbing the back of a stainless steel spoon. It worked.

To get tough gunk off the crock pot, fill it with hot water and add dishwashing machine detergent. let it soak. the stuff will just wipe off. it is also good if you have an old fashioned white sink.

On the hard boiled eggs....if you add vinager to the water, the yolks come out yellow with no green ring around them.
