We humbly ask for your presence

During our celebration, So Mote it Be

Raphael, Archangel of the South and Fire

Burn away negativity so we may rise higher

We humbly ask for your presence

To bless and participate with us, So Mote it Be

Gabriel, Archangel of the West and Water

Wash your blessings over us all

    And your presence here

For more strength to see us through, So Mote it Be

Uriel, Archangel of the North and Earth

With new names give these kittens rebirth

With the Powers that be and all that is

Bless this with your powers, So Mote it Be

In the center of the Circle, I lit a brand new red candle anointed with oil that represents the cats astrological sign. In this case, I used clove oil. The red candle represented the fire associated with the Sagittarius sign.

Take the kittens lovingly in your arms, all gently stroke the animals' fur and visualize the cat being surrounded by a protective aura of white light. Recite 9 times the following pagan prayer, once for each of it's 9 lives.

Moonbeam is the name I give to thee.

Moonbeam is the one who ye shall be.

And may the sound of thy new name

    Magick and power ninefold claim.

May ye live free and blessed be

By Goddess Bastet. So Mote it Be!

After the prayer has been recited, take a wand (I used my selenite wand), and trace the sacred symbol of the pentacle in the air over the cat. Give the cat a kiss.

We then repeated this with Shadow.

    We then closed the Circle.

Uriel, Archangel of the North and Earth

With these new names gave these kittens rebirth

With the powers that be and all that is

Thank you for blessing us with your powers, So Mote it Be

Gabriel, Archangel of the West and Water

Who washed your blessings over us all

We thank you for your presence here

For the strength to see us through, So Mote it Be

Raphael, Archangel of the South and Fire

You took away negativity and we rose higher

We humbly thank you for your presence

To bless and participate with us, So Mote it Be.

Michael, Archangel of the East and Air

With New Moon and night so fair

We humbly thank you for your presence

During our celebration, So Mote it Be.

Extinguish the candle, the cat naming and blessing ritual is now complete.

    Spirit Rattles Craft and Ritual

Spirit rattles are made from dried gourds and used to call forth the spirits of the ancestors in hopes of bringing their wisdom to the ritual, rite, or bonfire celebration. Gourds fall under the element of water and the influence of the moon, with their main function centering around protection, wisdom, and the calling capability once the rattle has been fashioned by magickal hands and enchanted for that purpose.

European folklore indicates that gourds can be hung by the front door during the harvest season to ward against negativity and fascination. Pieces of gourds carried in the pocket are also said to scare away bad influences.
Gourds take a long time to dry and have a tendency to rot if you don't pay attention to them. If you plan to make a spirit rattle from dried gourds, plan a year ahead. During harvest, pick your favorite gourds and place then in a dry, open, airy space. Turn the gourds often over the succeeding months.

    Gourds
    Dried beans, optional
    Paint, optional
    Strips of colored leather, optional

There are three ways to complete your rattle.

ONE: Shake rattle after it has dried. If the seeds make a pleasing sound to your ear, you will not need to cut open the rattle. Paint the rattle. Add rawhide and feathers to the handle. OR,

TWO: After the gourds have dried, use a thin saw blade to cut off the very top. Hold a handful of dried beans in your hand and enchant them to whisper a calling message to your ancestors and the Great Spirit. If this bothers you, you can always make an angel gourd instead, to call the angels. Put the beans in the gourd. Glue the top back on the gourd. Paint the gourd in vibrant colors or a pattern that is pleasing to you. Some individuals wrap the handle of the gourd with strips of colored leather. OR,

THREE: With heavy string and beads, create a netting to surround the ball section of the gourd. Tie securely. This will allow you to enhance the sound without cutting the gourd open.

Design a small ritual to bless your gourd, using holy water and sacred oil. This is called "Birthing" the rattle. Use the gourd to call the spirits of the dead (especially at Samhain) by shaking the gourd softly and humming or chanting:

    Spirits north, spirits east
    Spirits south, spirits west
    Spirits of the center.
    Ancestors - I call you
    Ancestors - I call you
    Bring me your wisdom.

Be sure to thank your ancestors when you have finished your ritual or divination session.

Spirit bowls are also made from dried gourds. Allow the gourd to dry, then remove the top and smooth out the inside of the bowl with light grade sandpaper. Paint the outside of the bowl with a design of your choosing. The bowl is then filled with holy water and used for scrying.
