1 c fresh mushrooms, sliced (one small can of mushrooms may be substituted) .
4 garlic cloves, minced .
2 tsps sea salt (to taste) .
1 (15 oz) can sliced tomatoes .
1/4 c shredded carrots (optional)
Directions
Step #1 Turn crock pot on high.
Step #2 Add all ingredients in Phase I to crock pot.
Step #3 In large heavy skillet on medium-high, add olive oil.
Step #4 saute onions, peppers (optional) & carrots (optional) until onions have browned.
Step #5 Add garlic & sautee for one min.
Step #6 Add to crock pot.
Step #7 Next, in same skillet, brown sausage & sirloin.
Step #8 Add paste & "burn" paste by combining with meat & turning like a pancake for 10 mins with a metal spatula(the purpose is to carmelize the paste because tomatoes have so much sugar in them).
Step #9 Add to crock pot.
Step #10 Add a small amount of water to hot skillet.
Step #11 Scrape remains of meat/paste mixture & add in the remaining mixture to crock pot.
Step #12 Simmer on low for 6-8 hrs.
Step #13 Add salt & pepper to taste.
Step #14 Serve over spaghetti topped with cheese.
