How to make it

  • Peel pears,leaving stem in place.
  • Cut bottom of each pear to set square.
  • Place pears in bowl with water and lemon juice.
  • In saucepan,that will hold all pears,combine the wine,sugar,and vanilla,bring to boil.
  • Add pears,cover with double layers of waxed paper.
  • Steam over low heat for about 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Remove pears from wine,stand on plate,cool.
  • Mix cornstarch and water,add to the boiling wine syrup.
  • Stir and boil until thick,remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Combine the wine syrup and pears,refrigerate.
  • When ready to serve,place one pear for each guest into a nice crystal dessert dish,pour sauce over,placing fresh mint leaves atop.
