PEAR CINNAMON BREAD PUDDING This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Fielder Estate in Justin, Texas in 1988.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 clove
  • 6 cups French bread cut into 1/2" cubes and toasted in the oven until dry
  • 3 pears peeled cored and sliced
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped blanched almonds
  • 1/2 pound Monterrey jack cheese cut into 1/2" cubes

Directions
  1. Combine brown sugar, water, cinnamon stick and clove in a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat then reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile place a layer of the bread cubes in the bottom of a greased ovenproof baking dish.
  4. Add a layer of pears, raisins, almonds and cheese then repeat until all the ingredients are used.
  5. Remove cinnamon and clove from syrup and pour over the bread mixture.
  6. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes then serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
