Mrs Kitchings Applesauce Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 unbaked 9-inch pie crusts
  • 1 16 1/2 ounce container of applesauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or lemon flavoring or 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Directions
  1. Put applesauce in a bowl. Add sugar, egg yolks, butter, cornstarch, and your choice of a flavoring and mix until smooth. Add evaporated milk. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold eg whites into applesauce mixture. Stir whole milk into mixture very slowly. Pour into two pie shells. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes; then 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
