Ingredients

How to make it

  • peel and slice the apples (slice them pretty thin but not paper thin)
  • dice or tear your bread into small chunks (pea to nickel sized)
  • generously coat a small baking pan with butter
  • sprinkle 1/3 of the brown sugar on the bottom of the pan
  • layer 1/3 of the apples on top of the brown sugar
  • layer 1/3 of the bread chunks on top of the apples
  • repeat the layering two times (sugar, apples, bread) ending with bread on the top
  • COVER the top of your layers with pats of butter sliced from your butter stick (yes COVER - it should be tiled solid with little square pats of butter. )
  • sprinkle water on top
  • cover with foil and bake at 375 for 40 minutes
  • remove foil and bake another 5 minutes to brown the top (watch it close so it doesn't get too brown)
  • serve with vanilla ice cream, redi-whip or heavy cream. Raisin are optional (sprinkle them on top before baking)
  • EAT (exercise to burn off the butter later)
