Ingredients
  • 1.5 c. light brown cane sugar
  • 5 T. margarine
  • 6 T. evaporated milk
  • 1.5 c. milk
  • 5 T. flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • baked pie shell

Directions
  1. In a large cast iron skillet, stir together the sugar, margarine (butter will scorch), and evaporated milk.
  2. Cook the mixture until it is brown, being very careful not to scorch.
  3. Let the mixture cool.
  4. Add the milk, flour, and egg yolks (save the whites for use in your favorite meringue recipe) and blend well.
  5. Cook until the mixture is thick like pudding.
  6. Pour into a 9" baked pie shell.
  7. Top with the meringue and bake according to your meringue recipe instructions.
