How to make it

  • Pre heat oven to gas mark 4 350f 180c
  • butter the bread and cut in half, leave crust on
  • arrange one layer of buttered bread over the base of the dish
  • sprinkle the candied peel and half the currents over, then cover with another layer of bread and the rest of the currents
  • add the milk and cream to a jug,stir in the sugar and lemon zest,
  • put the eggs in a bowl and whisk, then add to the mixture in the jug and mix
  • now pour it over the bread, sprinkle some nugmeg over the top
  • bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes
  • serve warm
