Gingerbread

- 60 g softened butter shopping list
- 1/4 cup of dark brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup of treacle or molassses shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 225 g plain flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg shopping list
- 1/2 and a half teaspoons ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1 tablespoons ground ginger shopping list
- 1/3 cup of buttermilk shopping list
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease a 4cm deep 30cmx22cm tin and line it with baking paper.
- Sift flour and bicarb soda and the spices and set aside. Combine buttermilk and orange juice. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in treacle, then beat in eggs, one at a time. Add flour and spices alternately with the milk and orange juice, a third at a time, ending with flour.
- Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 50 minutes until cake tests clean. (Test with a straw or toothpick). Cool on a wire rack before turning out. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
