How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • For beef mixture brown ground beef, onion, celery, in the shortening.
  • Add salt, pepper, and tomato sauce. Cook until it is thickened. Cool.
  • For flour mixture sift together flour, baking powder, salt, marjoram and sage. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course meal.
  • Combine the other tomato sauce with enough water to make 2/3 cup. Add to flour mixture, mixing only until all the flour is dampened. Knead gently on a floured board for a few seconds.
  • Roll out to 12x9 inch rectangle. Spread with cooled beef mixture.
  • Roll as for jelly roll, starting with 9inch side.
  • Place on greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 30-35 mins.
