How to make it

  • 1.Drain and rinse the nopales in colander. Set them aside in a dish.
  • 2.Add the diced onion, tomatoes, cilantro,jalapeno, cumin and oregano to the dish with nopales. Mix it well.
  • 3.Take the juice of 2 limes and pour over the top of the mixture of nopales. Sprinkle cheese on top(if desired).
  • 4.Refridgerate about 1 hour before serving. Serve on top of carnitas!

    Actually that is what I use, just make sure to rinse & them off good before you use them in this recipe. I have a recipe on here for a tamale filling w/nopales.

    If I were to buy freshly cubed nopales, would that be fine in this recipe, or would it need any special pre-preparation, such as blanching, boiling or sauteing? (Last year I'd wanted to make tamales with nopalitos, green chile & cheese as a filling - what do you think of that idea?) ~ Thanks!
