Mayan Spicy Hot Chocolate

- 2 to 3 tablespoons whipping cream shopping list
- 2 cups whole or low-fat milk shopping list
- 5 ounces dark (bittersweet) chocolate, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more to sprinkle shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper, plus more to sprinkle shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon salt shopping list
- sugar, optional shopping list
How to make it
- Whisk cream in a small bowl until thick; set aside in refrigerator. Whisk together milk, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, red pepper and salt in a small saucepan. Heat, whisking, over low heat until chocolate melts evenly. Simmer until thickened, 2-3 minutes. Whisk so foam forms on top. Taste; whisk in sugar if needed. Pour chocolate into warm mugs. Top with whipped cream; sprinkle with cinnamon and red pepper.
