Fried Okra

- 2 lbs okra, 1/2" slice shopping list
- buttermilk shopping list
- 1 cup flour shopping list
- salt and pepper, to taste shopping list
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper flakes (optional) shopping list
- cooking oil or bacon drippings shopping list
How to make it
- Marinate okra in buttermilk for about an hour; drain well.
- Over medium high heat, add enough oil or drippings to coat the bottom of a very large skillet or cast iron pan.
- Combine flour, salt, pepper and cayenne. Dredge okra in flour mixture. Add to hot oil and fry, turning occasionally, until nicely browned, about 30 minutes.
- Serve.
