Beautiful Barbecued Beans

- 1 lb.smokey bacon shopping list
- 1 15 oz. can black beans shopping list
- 1 15 oz. can red beans shopping list
- 3 14-15 oz. cans your favorite baked beans shopping list
- 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 1 red bell pepper, cored, seeded, finely sliced shopping list
- 1 green bell pepper, cored, seeded, finely sliced shopping list
- 4-5 cloves garlic, minced shopping list
- 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and diced(leave seeds of you like it hot) shopping list
- 2 c. sweet red bbq sauce (i used original K) shopping list
- 1 1/2 c. light brown sugar(packed) shopping list
- 1/2 c. Dijon mustard shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- also: shopping list
- 1 turkey sized aluminum pan or 2 medium foil pans shopping list
- 2 c. apple wood chips(soak for at least an hour, drain) shopping list
How to make it
- Fry the bacon until crisp, drain the fat
- Rinse the black and red beans in a colander under cold water
- place ALL beans in a really large glass bowl, add onion, peppers, garlic and mix well
- Add the bbq sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and bacon, mix well.
- Taste, add more mustard or brown sugar if desired, then the salt and pepper.
- Transfer the bean mixture to the aluminum pan(s).
- Set up your grill for indirect grilling, preheat to about 175
- Toss all the woodchips onto the coals
- Place the beans on the center grate, away from the heat, cover the grill
- Cook until the beans are thick, and rich, stir and check temp. every 15 minutes
- If they start to dry out before they're done, cover with foil.
- When done remove and let rest about 15 minutes.
