How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cream melted butter and sugar until well combined.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Combine flour minus one tablespoon, salt, cocoa, baking powder, and baking soda. Add to butter mixture alternating with buttermilk. Mix well after each addition but do not overmix.
  • Combine remaining tablespoon flour with chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
  • Stir into batter.
  • Pour batter into greased 9" x 5" loaf pan.
  • Bake on center rack for 55 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Cool in pan for 10 minutes then turn out onto wire rack to cool completely.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar or add your favorite glaze.
  • Bread can also be served warm.
