How to make it

  • Chop the cabbage finely and then sprinkle with sugar.
  • Place half of the cabbage in a container, cover with onion slices, then cover with the remaining cabbage.
  • Prepare the dressing (see below) and pour it over the cabbage while still hot - DO NOT MIX!
  • Cover and refrigerate immediately.
  • Chill for 24 hours before tossing and serving.
  • --- To prepare the dressing:
  • In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients for the dressing except the oil.
  • Bring to the boiling point, then add the oil, mix and return to the boiling point before removing from the heat and allowing to cool slightly.
