Spiral Apple Dumplings

- 2 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg shopping list
- 2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 3/4 cup shortening shopping list
- 2/3 cup milk shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 3 cups shredded peeled cooking apples shopping list
How to make it
- In a large saucepan combine sugar, water, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Bring to boiling and boil 5 minutes then set aside.
- For dough in a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt.
- Using a pastry blender cut in shortening until pea size then make well in center.
- Add milk all at once and stir just until moistened.
- Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until nearly smooth then roll out rectangle.
- For filling combine sugar and cinnamon then set aside.
- Sprinkle apples evenly over dough then sprinkle with sugar mixture.
- Roll dough into spiral starting from a long side then pinch seams to seal.
- Cut into twelve 1" thick pieces and place in rectangular baking pan.
- Pour sauce over dumplings then bake at 350 for 50 minutes.
