Ingredients
  • Butter,1/2,pound,unsalted,melted
  • filo pastry,1,pound
  • walnuts,2,cup,chopped
  • sugar,3,tablespoon
  • 1 1/2,cup,cold syrup
  • syrup:
  • sugar, 3 cups
  • water, 1 1/2 cups
  • lemon juice,1 Tablespoon
  • rose-water, 1 teaspoon or orange blossom water

Directions
  1. In small bowl combine nuts & sugar.
  2. Brush baking dish (app. 12in *18in) with butter.
  3. Place 1 pastry sheet in pan,brush with butter.
  4. Place second sheet on top,overlap or fold sides if necessary, brush with butter,continue 8-10 layers.
  5. Spread walnut mixture evenly over top sheet.
  6. Cover with remaining pastry sheets.butter each layer
  7. Be sure to butter last sheet.
  8. Cut diagonal lines down and across to form diamond shaped pieces.
  9. Bake in preheated oven 350 bake 30 min, increase heat to 450 and bake 5-10 more min, until pastry puffs are a light golden color.
  10. While it is still hot pour syrup over it.
  11. for the syrup:
  12. Dissolve sugar in water. Add lemon juice, bring to a boil.
  13. Stir occasionally until syrup slightly thickens (about 10 min.)
  14. Add rose-water towards end of cooking time.
  15. STAND TO COOL

Lohisham... this is not the one I ate. The khunafa was sold in a round plastic plate. I bought mine from one of the kabsa shop. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks.
