Very Cherry Stuffed French Toast

- 8 eggs shopping list
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 12 slices dry white bread shopping list
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened shopping list
- 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter, margarine or vegetable oil shopping list
- Granulated or confectioners' sugar (optional) shopping list
- Maple-flavored syrup (optional) shopping list
- Maple Cherry syrup shopping list
- Dollop of whip cream topped with a marschino cherry and drizzle with shopping list
- a tad of chocolate and cherry sauce.(optional) shopping list
- Drizzle chocolate sauce and Cherry Sauce on the bottom of the plate (optional) shopping list

- Yield: 2 cups shopping list
- 1 1/2 c maple syrup shopping list
- 1 c sugar, brown; packed shopping list
- 1/2 c honey shopping list
- 2 ea Orange; juiced w/1tsp. peel shopping list
- 2 ea Lemon; juiced w/1tsp. peel shopping list
- 2 tb butter/margarine shopping list
- 1 ts cinnamon, ground shopping list
- 1 c cherries, tart, dried; chopped shopping list
How to make it
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together eggs, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Set aside.
- Spread each slice of the bread with some cream cheese. Top six of the slices with cherry pie filling, spreading almost to the edges. Cover each with the remaining bread slices, cream cheese side down. Dip into the egg mixture.
- In a skillet or on a griddle, cook the sandwiches in hot butter over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Cut filled French toast into halves or quarters and dip in or sprinkle with sugar, if desired. Serve with hot maple syrup, if desired.
- Maple Cherry Syrup
- Combine maple syrup, brown sugar, honey, juices and grated rind in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes. Add cherries, cook 2 minutes.
- Serve over pancakes, waffles, etc.
