Gingersnap Streusal Topping

- 2 c crushed gingersnaps--leave chunks shopping list
- 1/4 sweet butter shopping list
- 3 T light brown sugar shopping list
- 2 T white sugar shopping list
- 1/4 c all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 c walnuts (or almonds or hazelnuts--suit yourself) + 2 T white sugar shopping list
- 1/2 t cinnamon shopping list
How to make it
- Pulse the walnuts and their sugar about 8 times in a food processor. There should be both fine walnut powder and chunks.
- In a bowl, combine the nuts with all the other ingredients except the butter.
- Using your fingers, rub the butter quickly into the dry ingredients. Wash your hands first in cold water, and repeat if necessary.
- Use to top fruit pies, coffee cakes, fruit crisps. If it seems to be getting too brown before your dessert is done baking, lay a piece of aluminum foil lightly across the topping.
