How to make it

  • Blend together the shortening and the brown sugar.
  • Beat in the eggs.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, and the spices.
  • Mix well.
  • Stir in the raisins, fruit, and nuts, if you are using them.
  • Add to the shortening mixture along with the milk and vinegar.
  • Mix well.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.
  • Bake at 325 F for 20 to 25 minutes.
