How to make it

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, 1 cup of the sugar, and the molasses
  • Beat in the egg until smooth
  • Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and cloves
  • Stir into the molasses mixture
  • Spread into a greased 15 x 10 inch baking pan
  • Sprinkle with the remaining sugar
  • Bake at 375 F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned (Do Not Overbake)
  • Cool on a wire rack
  • Cut into bars
