Dhal

- Split green gram (which is yellow in color) (Moong dhal) – 3/4 cup shopping list
- water - 1 ½ cup shopping list
- butter – 2 tbsp shopping list
- turmeric – ½ tsp shopping list
- onion – 1 (chopped lengthwise) shopping list
- tomato – 1 finely chopped shopping list
- cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1 tsp shopping list
- garlic cloves – 2 mashed a bit shopping list
- Green chilli – 1 slit into half shopping list
- Asafoetida – 2 pinch shopping list
- ginger – ½ inch (mashed a bit) shopping list
- Sambar powder – 1 tsp (optional) shopping list
- salt – to taste shopping list
- coriander leaves – few (optional) shopping list
- For seasoning shopping list
- butter – 2 tbsp shopping list
- mustard – ½ tsp shopping list
- Urad dhal – 1 tsp shopping list
- Jeera – ½ tsp shopping list
- Asafoetida – 1 pinch shopping list
- garlic -2 finely chopped shopping list
- onion - ½ finely chopped shopping list
- tomato - ½ finely chopped shopping list
- Green chilli – 1 finely chopped shopping list
- curry leaves – a few (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Method:
- In a Pressure Pan put all the ingredients (except salt) and cook until 2 whistles or until done. Remove chilli and ginger after cooking.
- For the seasoning
- Heat butter in a pan. Add mustard, allow it to splatter. Add urad dhal, Fry until golden brown. Add cumin seeds (sauté for 10 seconds), add Asafoetida, immediately add garlic, fry until golden brown, add onion, green chilli (sauté it), tomato (fry it until cooked). Finally add curry leaves. Now add this to the cooked dhal and add salt. Mix well. Serve hot. Good with Rice/Roti.
