Irish Apple Cake

- 8oz/225g Self-raising flour shopping list
- Good pinch of salt shopping list
- 1/2 coffeespoon of ground cloves shopping list
- 4oz/100g butter, at room temperature shopping list
- 3 or 4 cooking applies shopping list
- 4-6oz 100g-150g sugar, to taste shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- A little milk to mix Granulated sugar to sprinkle over. shopping list
How to make it
- Grease and base-line a 7"-8"cake tin. Preheat a moderately hot oven, 375F, 190C, gask mark 5. Sieve the flour, salt and cloves into a bowl, cut in the butter and rub in until the mixture is like fine breadcrumbs. Peel and core the applies, slice thinly, add to the rubbed in mixture - with the sugar - the amount depends on how much sweetening the apples need. Mix in the egg and enough milk to make a fairly stiff dough, then turn the mixture into the prepared tin and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake in the preheated over for 30-40 minutes, or until crisp, golden brown and springy to the touch. Best of all served warm with chilled creme fráiche

This is fantastic! It's so quick and easy to pull together, and simply delicious! I used just an 1/8 tsp of cloves, and 1/8 tsp of nutmeg. I wish I had crème fraiche to go along side, instead I served it with some whipped cream. The warm cake would ...more
