How to make it

  • 1.Wash & Clean the pigeon pea lentils and soak them for half an hour,after half an hour,discard the water & pressure cook the lentils with 2 cups of water for 3 whistles or until soft.
  • 2.In a wok heat 2-3 tbsp of oil,once it starts heating add mustard seeds,once they crackle,add the cumin seeds & whole red chilli,pounded garlic ,fry well, add the onions and let it cook till the edges turn golden,then add the ginger garlic paste & saute well
  • 3.now add the chopped green chillies(if using),turmeric powder and curry leaves & mix well,keep stirring it so that it doesnt stick to the bottom,now add the diced tomatoes sprinkle just a pinch of salt over them and also add the sugar and cover & cook the tomatoes for 2 mins,if it gets too dry add 1/4 cup of water & cover & cook till the tomatoes are soft
  • 4.Now add the cooked lentils/dal to this & mix well,add salt to taste.Garnish with coriander leaves & serve hot with rice or rotis
