Tomato Dal/lentils

- 1cup-PIgeonpea lentils/toor dal shopping list
- 1 small onion sliced fine shopping list
- 1-whole red chilli shopping list
- 1/2tsp black mustard seeds shopping list
- 1/2tsp-cumin seeds shopping list
- 3-4-flakes of garlic pounded shopping list
- 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste shopping list
- 1/2tsp-turmeric powder shopping list
- 1/2cup-diced tomatoes shopping list
- salt to taste shopping list
- 1/2tsp sugar shopping list
- 7-8-curry leaves shopping list
- 1-2 green chillies chopped(optional) shopping list
- coriander leaves for garnish shopping list
- 2-3 tbsp-olive oil shopping list
How to make it
- 1.Wash & Clean the pigeon pea lentils and soak them for half an hour,after half an hour,discard the water & pressure cook the lentils with 2 cups of water for 3 whistles or until soft.
- 2.In a wok heat 2-3 tbsp of oil,once it starts heating add mustard seeds,once they crackle,add the cumin seeds & whole red chilli,pounded garlic ,fry well, add the onions and let it cook till the edges turn golden,then add the ginger garlic paste & saute well
- 3.now add the chopped green chillies(if using),turmeric powder and curry leaves & mix well,keep stirring it so that it doesnt stick to the bottom,now add the diced tomatoes sprinkle just a pinch of salt over them and also add the sugar and cover & cook the tomatoes for 2 mins,if it gets too dry add 1/4 cup of water & cover & cook till the tomatoes are soft
- 4.Now add the cooked lentils/dal to this & mix well,add salt to taste.Garnish with coriander leaves & serve hot with rice or rotis
