How to make it

  • Cake:
  • Beat eggs until very light.
  • Then beat in sugar, salt and vanilla.
  • Put milk in saucepan and bring to the boiling point, then add in butter and margarine.
  • Beat hot milk mixture into the sugar mixture.
  • Sift flour and baking powder and quickly beat into sugar mixture. Immediatley pour into greased and floured pans, put on the insert pan and pour the rest in the base pan, no more then half full.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.(25-30 mins if using 9x13" pan)
  • Remove from oven a cool in pan on cooling rack.
  • Filling:
  • In medium bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.
  • Add sugar, a little at a time, to cream and mix until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold in 2 1/2 cups strawberries.
  • Spoon filling into cavity of cooled pan.
  • Smooth filling and press lightly to remove air bubbles.
  • Place base cake over filling; press firmly to seal.
  • Refrigerate in cake pan until very cold.
  • Carefully remove cake from pan.
  • Top with remaining strawberries and more whip cream if desired.
  • Tip: You can use regular whipped cream if you'd like. Also if you put the beaters in the fridge or freezer to chill before whipping it works great.
