Maraschino Cherries

- 5 pounds sweet cherries pitted shopping list
- 4 pounds sugar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons red food coloring shopping list
- 4 teaspoons almond extract shopping list
- 1 tablespoons lemon juice shopping list
How to make it
- Put cherries and sugar into a large saucepan and stir gently until juices begin to form.
- Cook slowly until thick then remove from heat and add food coloring, extract and lemon juice.
- Cook 15 minutes longer then pack hot in sterilized jars.
- Seal with sterilized lids and rings then process in boiling water bath 20 minutes.
- Cool then test the seal and store in a cool dark place to preserve the rich color.
